The Oz vs. The Jon — it’s going to be a long week

I looked at a pitching matchup between two starters as what would set the tone of my matchup this weekend with The Jon. It was his top starter Johan Santana vs. Ian Snell, one of my lower guys (3-4-5 are all about the same for me at this point). I figured if Snell and the Pirates could pull out a win against Johan, that would set a nice pace for me.

As the more astute among you know, that showdown was scheduled for Monday — but got postponed because all of New York stops when A-Rod hurts his leg. Or something like that. I’m not really sure. So a day late, we got Johan vs. Ian, and the subtext of The Oz vs. The Jon.

More on that in a second, but first, a musical break with another Santana:

Back? OK, so Santana vs. Snell started off swell for me. My current McManCrush Nate McLouth (I forgive that 0-for, Nate) led off with the game with a homer off Johan. That’s double-dipping for me, helps in offensive and in pitching. Things were going well, until Snell blew a 2-0 lead in the fourth and Johan and the Mets took control.

However, The Mets bullpen turned the table on The Jon by giving it up in the eighth and ninth, as the Pirates tied it up. I’m sure this hurt our resident YouTube surfer, as his No. 2 Roy Halladay lost what had been a 0-0 game to the BoSox in the bottom of the ninth earlier in the night. As I write this, the Pirates and Mets are 4-4 in the tenth. (The Mets won).

What does all this mean? That this is going to be a long week for The Oz and The Jon.

  1. The Jon somehow feels a whole lot stupider after watching that video. We can’t get some Carlos Santana up in here?

  2. Just trying to court the young readers.
